A Warm Mug is like a Warm Hug

As the cold autumn weather persists, we Minnesotans are preparing to hunker down for the winter months with cozy blankets, fuzzy slippers, and a favorite book or TV program. One necessary accoutrement would be a hot mug of something delicious to sip on whilst curled up on your favorite chair. Lately, I’ve been enjoying a hot cup of cocoa when I’m wanting to snuggle in. Here are some recipes to keep you toasty this winter, including my favorite hot cocoa!

French Toast Buttered Cider

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup apple cider
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch nutmeg
  • 1 Tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 Tablespoon salted butter

Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until frothy and smooth. You can also shake the ingredients together in a mason jar but it won’t be quite as frothy.

Creamy Turmeric Green Tea

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons grated fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh turmeric (or sub powdered)
  • Pinch nutmeg
  • 1 bag of green tea
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk

Directions:
Place all the ingredients except for the coconut milk into a mug and fill with nearly boiling water. Let the tea steep for 2-3 minutes then remove the tea bag.
Combine the tea mixture and coconut milk into a blender and blend until frothy and smooth. You can also shake the ingredients together in a mason jar but it won’t be quite as frothy.

Hot Cocoa (*dairy-free)

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • Tiny pinch salt
  • 1+ Tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • Dash cayenne, optional
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk

Directions:

Combine all ingredients into a blender and blend until frothy and smooth. You can also store the cocoa/coconut mixture in your refrigerator to add hot water to later for a quick cuppa ‘co.

Enjoy, and stay cozy!
